A rampaging water buffalo crashed through a Cambodian wedding, goring six guests and passersby who were sent to hospital for treatment, police said. The incident took place early Thursday morning at the wedding of the daughter of a Cambodian businessman, where some 100 guests had gathered on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, local police chief Veng Chork said.
The buffalo ran into the wedding ceremony from a nearby field and gored four guests, causing "chaos" at the function before running out and wounding two passersby, including a woman who was five months pregnant, he said.
"The buffalo was on a rampage," the police chief said, adding the animal was shot dead soon after the incident to prevent more casualties.
Police were not clear about what prompted the buffalo to attack people, but the local Rasmei Kampuchea newspaper said the buffalo was apparently surprised by the sound of gongs to celebrate the wedding.
