Hello, and welcome! My name is Jeroen Wijering and I'm working as a developer (and cofounder) with both LongTail Video and Bits on the Run. LongTail Video is a no-nonsense advertisement network for online video, currently serving nearly 10.000.000 streams a day. Bits on the Run is a revolutionary online video management platform, combining encoding, management, publishing and tracking in one easy to use shell.
JW Player
You probably ended up here because of my JW Player, which has become the most used video player on the internet. It comes in two flavors, the JW FLV Player for Flash and the JW WMV Player for Silverlight. The player is completely open-source and free for noncommercial use. For corporate use, 30-euros commercial licenses are available.
Tutorials and forum
To swiftly get started, check out this site's tutorials, like the ones on video encoding, Flash embedding and player skinning. There is also an active support forum, which has a great, cooperative vibe. I'll join the discussions as often as possible, though time is always short...
